Consultation announced for new Aldi store in Bangor
Aldi, the award-winning discount food retailer, is preparing plans to open a new, high-quality food store at the former Blakemore cash and carry site off Caernarfon Road in Bangor. The proposal will be delivered by site owner and leading developer, The Bampton Property Group – part of the Freshwater Group – and invites the local community to have their say.
The proposals will see the currently vacant site transformed into an attractive, modern food store that will have a net sales area of 1,254m², 113 car parking spaces including dedicated disabled and parent-and-child parking and additional parking facilities for motorbikes and bicycles. The proposal also includes improvements to Caernarfon Road around the shared point of access to the site and the neighbouring Dunelm store via the creation of a roundabout.
If the application receives planning permission, Aldi will relocate from its existing Garth Road store to Caernarfon Road. The proposal would protect approximately 27 full-time local jobs and create ten further positions, which will be paid at an industry-leading rate of £9.10 per hour as a minimum. There would also be additional employment opportunities during construction and via the supply chain.
As part of their commitment to consulting the local community, Freshwater and Aldi welcome the local community to a public exhibition:
On: Friday 8th March 2019
Between: 2.30pm and 6.30pm
At: Bangor Methodist Church, High Street, Bangor, LL57 1NR.
Detailed information about the proposals, and ways in which residents can provide their feedback, can be found at the project website: aldi-bangor.consultationonline.co.uk/en.
